• Learn the facts about spay/neuter and get your dog fixed. Tell your family, friends, neighbors why they need to get their pet fixed too.

• Help a lost pet find it's way home and stay out of the shelter. Here are some ways to help a lost pet and to make sure your pet doesn't get lost.

• Get your dog to obedience classes. 90% of the dogs left by their owners in kill shelters have never had obedience training.

• Getting a new pet? Look for a great pet at a local rescue organization or shelter. In 2004, over 20,000 dogs and cats of all sizes and breeds were brought to the Austin Animal shelter.
